Black Desert Resort: A Must-Experience Golf Trip in St. George, Utah

Cameron Ream

Tucked away in the stunning red rock landscapes of St. George, Utah, Black Desert Resort and Golf Course is one of those places every golfer needs to visit. It’s not the easiest course to play—or the cheapest—but it’s an experience that sticks with you.

A Course That’s as Challenging as It Is Beautiful

This course gave me a run for my money. I have never seen a course like this. Even the other courses in the Southern Utah area don’t look like this. The black lava rock just gives this course such a unique look. Just make sure you are accurate with your shots. Course management at Black Desert needs to be top of mind. There were plenty of times when I should have just punched out and instead I made a mistake by “going for it.” With that being said, it was an incredibly fun course to play. There were so many holes where you just wanted to take pictures and get cool videos of your shots. I would highly suggest a trip out to Black Desert and Southern Utah in general. This is a hidden gem location for a golf trip. There are tons of great golf courses in the area and Black Desert is a must play.

The Black Desert Open 2024

In 2024, Black Desert hosted the Black Desert Open, a professional tournament that put the course in the spotlight. Watching the pros navigate this course was a cool experience after having played it. The funny thing is that I thought they would have had a tougher time than they did. It’s crazy how they make the game look so easy. This event brought a lot of attention to the course and definitely cemented its status as a must-play golf destination.

Not Just About the Golf

Even when you’re not hitting the links, the resort itself is located in a great spot. The accommodations are luxurious, the dining options are top-notch, and the surrounding area is perfect for exploring. Outdoor enthusiasts will love the resort’s proximity to Zion National Park, just about an hour drive away. If you’re unfamiliar with Zion, it offers world-class hiking trails, from easy walks to challenging climbs, all surrounded by some of the most stunning natural scenery in the country.

And if you want something a little more low-key, there are plenty of trails closer to the resort that showcase the beauty of the St. George area. Pair that with the jaw-dropping sunsets over the red rocks, and you’ve got yourself a trip to remember.

Why You Should Go

The Black Desert Golf Course isn’t a place you’ll hit up every weekend, but it’s something every golfer should experience at least once. Between the stunning views and the challenge of the course, it’s the kind of round that stays with you. In addition to Black Desert, there are countless great courses (Sand Hollow, Coral Canyon, Copper Rock, just to name our favorites) in the surrounding area that makes for an incredible St. George Utah golf trip.

Plus, with Zion National Park and the surrounding outdoor adventures just a short drive away, you can make it a trip that includes more than just golf if you’re into that as well. So if you’re looking for a bucket-list course and an unforgettable destination, Black Desert should definitely be on your radar.
